Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can I use Solar Panels to power my home?
Solar Panels can be used to power your entire home's electrical systems, including lights, cooling systems, and appliances. PV systems today can be blended easily into both traditional and non-traditional homes. The most common practice is to mount modules onto a north-facing roof.
2) Can I use PV to power my business?
PV systems can be blended into virtually every conceivable structure for commercial buildings. You will find PV being used outdoors for security lighting as well as in structures that serve as covers for parking lots and bus shelters, generating power at the same time. Architects can use building-integrated PV to design buildings that are environmentally responsive, aesthetically pleasing, and produce their own power. Building-integrated PV provides a dual-use building material, reduces PV system costs by using the building as the mounting or support structure, and reduces utility bills through on-site power production.
3) How much energy will my Solar System produce?
A 1 Kilowatt system should produce about 5 Kilowatts a day on average. A 1.5 Kilowatt system about 7 to 8 Kilowatts of energy. The amount of energy produced will also depend on panel angle, temprture and weather conditions.
4) How long will it take to install my solar power system?
Usually 2 or 3 days depending on weather, system size, roof area and height.
5) Will my solar power system work during a black out?
No, the system will automatically shut down within a few milliseconds of losing grid voltage and stay off until the grid power is restored.
6) Does the solar system require maintanance?
Once the system has been installed there is little maintanance that is required. The only item that may need attention is a build up of dirt or dust on the solar panels so they should be checked and cleaned periodically.
7) Can I monitor my solar system remotely?
Yes, there are data logging options available for most inverters currently on the market. You can simply connect to your P.C via a direct cable link or a wireless display is available.
8) Will shading effect the power production of the solar system?
Yes, if any part of the systems panels are shaded the output of the system will be effected.
9) Will I be eligible for the government rebate?
Yes, but the house that the system is to be installed on must be your principle place of residence and your registered electoral roll address. The rebate that is currently available is $8 a watt installed, so if you install a 1 Kilowatt system you should receive the full rebate of $8000.
10) Who will buy my excess energy?
All of the power retailers will purchase your power produced or you contact specific Green power companies who specialize in renewable energy. Generally your exported power will be credited to your power bill account 1 for 1.
